Sokol Balla was appointed Director of news in KLAN TV, when the television was an independent and the only national private media organisation. He took the position after returning from London. He managed in a short to build a creative news bulletin in a growing competitive media environment. He was mainly responsible for opening equal spaces to all political parties, including the Democratic Party of the then-opposition, which was in three year conflict with the television. In two years time, the democrats, managed to come back to power, also thanks to new approach with the media and journalists.

Sokol worked at BBC World Service during a very turbulent situation in the Balkans. His qualified skills as journalist well connected in Albania, helped the Albanian Service of BBC provide excellent coverage of events in 1998, 1999 and also elections in the country in 2000-2001. He was anchor and producer of Albanian news programs during the War in Kosovo and Macedonia. Sokol considers the experience at the BBC at the core of his professional career and such is also considered by the professional circles in Albania and the public opinion. During his almost 4 years in London, he also produced for the first time in Albanian Service history, its own Sport Program, called BBC GOAL, widely followed by Albanians in the region. During 1999 events in Albania, when prime minister Majko resigned, he achieved almost the "perfect ten", by interviewing the newly re-elected chairman of Socialists, Fatos Nano, the newly-appointed prime minister Ilir Meta and the head of Opposition then, Sali Berisha. The losing Pandi Majko did not talk to the press on the day.
